Presentation Guidelines

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

NOTE: Presentations are restricted to EAS/OSE-related topics, regardless of the primary affiliation of the presenter. Guidelines subject to change until schedule is finalized (November 2nd, 2018).

 

Oral Presentations:

Speakers will be provided with a 20-minute timeslot. It is recommended that the presentation portion of your talk be limited to 15 minutes, reserving the last 5 minutes for questions. The symposium committee will strictly limit your time to 15 minutes in order to provide enough time for all speakers. A moderator will give you a three-minute, and one-minute warning.

All presentations must be in either Microsoft PowerPoint (in “standard” view, NOT “widescreen”) or Adobe PDF format. You may NOT use your own computer – all PowerPoint and/or Adobe PDF files must be submitted to the organizing committee by November 8th, 2018. Prior to submitting your presentation, please make sure that all fonts and images will display correctly on a PC. We may not be able to accommodate last-minute changes to your presentation.

Treat your talk as if it were being given at a professional conference. Assume the audience has a broad, scientific knowledge and is capable of understanding your complex research. Be sure to explain the highly specific details of your research as you would at any other professional conference.

Judges will be provided standardized evaluation sheets. Speakers will receive a score of 1-5 in the following categories: 

Did the presentation contain interesting new data or ideas? 

Was the presentation clear? 

Did the presentation cover an appropriate amount of material? 

Was the quality of the figures adequate and their size appropriate? 

Did the author give proper credit to related work? 

Did the speaker arrive at substantial conclusions? 

Did the speaker follow the time limits allowing for questions?

Poster Presentations:

Poster presenters can come put up their posters starting at 3:30pm. The poster session will begin promptly at 4:00pm. Alcoholic beverages will be served for participants and guests aged 21+. 

Easels and poster boards (approx. 48″ x 32″) will be provided. You will be responsible for printing your poster. Posters can be printed using the following methods.

Reminder: EAS no longer offers poster printing as a department service.**

The services below require a fee to print but can be utilized for same-day printing at a much lower price than commercial printing services.

Did the author give properly answers to the questions?
